Hi, AP! This is the first blog dedicated to the on-goings in AP biology. This week (and a bit of last week), we are starting our second unit: The Cell. On Friday, 9/21, we began an egg mini-lab and read up on stem cell research/usage. Here's what else we're up to this week:
Objective 9/24, 9/25: Scientists will read about and discuss the pro's and con's of stem cell research in groups in order to debate the issue with their classmates. (see stem cell debate notes and stem cell synthesis assignment)

Objective 9/27: Scientists will perform the egg and cell labs in order to begin discussion about cell structure and cellular transport.

bio: Week of 9/24 - 9/28
This week in biology, we'll be reviewing for our first unit test! Students received a review sheet on Friday, 9/21, and in class on 9/24, we'll try to go through as many topics as possible in class. After the test, we'll be conferencing on our mid-quarter grades and reflecting on our progress and what we can do in the coming weeks to keep our fabulous grades or to raise our grades to being fabulous. We will also begin studying a new unit - ecology!
Objective 9/24: Scientists will review the properties of water and organic molecules in order to reinforce content knowledge in preparation for our unit test. (see fly swatter review powerpoint)
HW 9/24: study - use review sheet!
Objective 9/25: Scientists will show what they know about WDI's and biochemistry (water and organic macromolecules) in order to earn 80+% on their unit test.
HW 9/25: none :)
Objective 9/27: Scientists will define what makes classifies something to be "alive" in order to argue whether or not fire is a living thing. (see 9-27 bio intro screen, What Makes Something Living?, and Fire BCR)
